Keywords

What each of the game’s 69 keywords, statuses and terms means, in its own words: the definitions come from the game’s glossary, or from its in-battle hints where the glossary has none. At the end, 17 other terms card text uses that the game never defines, in our own words from the official FAQs, and 6 official rulings worth knowing.

Keywords

Abilities printed on cards, such as Flight, or Deploy followed by what happens.

Boon

Boons are one of the following powers: Crush; Feral; Flight; Lethal; Lifedrain; Rage 1; Speed; Spellshield; Steadfast; and Swiftstrike.

Stacking: a boon becomes its champion's chosen keyword and follows that keyword's rule: a Rage boon adds 1, the others add nothing.

For example: Augmentation Bot, Big Buddy, Boon Bunch, C.A.G.E.

Empower

While this is in your hand: Transform this into Empowered (this card), doubling all starting numbers in this card's textbox. Then, double this card's cost, , and .

Stacking: a power from your hand that transforms the card: a second copy would be a second power, but the first one used changes the card.

First in Primal Dawn (26 Apr 2016).

For example: Adamanthian Captain, Ashwood Apprentice, Benediction, Burning Tendrils · All 33 cards

Frostform

While this is in your hand: You may transform this into Brittle (this card), making its base become one, but playing it for 2 fewer resources.

Stacking: a power that transforms the card: the first one used changes it.

For example: Aegilus, Alchemite, Arcanovex, Arctic Grizzly

Lifebound

At the start of your turn, if you control a troop with Lifebound, put each troop with Lifebound from your crypt into play.

Stacking: a second copy adds nothing.

For example: Lovebound, Mylaanth the Lifebinder

Portal

At the start of your turn, if this is in your hand, it reverts and transforms it into a random card of the same rarity and of your thresholds.

Stacking: a power that transforms the card at the start of your turn: the first one changes it.

For example: Bleeding Heart, Coiling Nebulax, Cosmicron, Greater Quazarus

Quick

You may play this card at any time you have priority

Stacking: a second copy adds nothing.

First in Doombringer (16 Mar 2018).

For example: Buzzkiller

Spectral

This is unaffected by all cards, powers, and effects other than its own powers and effects.

Stacking: a second copy would add nothing (no card ever gives it).

For example: Spectral Acorn

Tunneling

You may tunnel this card from your hand by paying its tunneling cost - it is put underground, where it is hidden from your opponent and is not affected by cards that affect cards in play. At the start of your turn, your underground Tunneling cards get a tunneling counter. The card surfaces when the number of tunneling counters on it is equal to, or greater, than its tunneling number; it is played for free immediately and gets Speed this turn.

Stacking: copies add up: more Tunneling means more turns underground.

First in Shattered Destiny (9 Dec 2014).

For example: Agent of M.O.L.E., Bucktooth Roshi, Burrow Bunny, Cottontail Scout · All 24 cards

Statuses

States that cards put on troops and players during a game. Card text names them; no card has one printed as its own keyword.

Damage Shield

Prevent the next damage that would be dealt to this.

No collectible card’s text names it.

Dazed

Each non-resource card in your hand has cost +. At the end of your turn, remove a dazed counter from you. Then, if none remain, you're no longer Dazed.

For example: Dark Pact Demon

Enthralled

Enthralled has no inherent meaning. It is a keyword that other cards or powers will reference.

Stacking: a second copy adds nothing.

For example: Succubus

Must be blocked

Opposing troops must block this if able.

No collectible card’s text names it.

Soulcursed

When an opposing troop with Soulcursed dies, its controller sacrifices each other troop they control with Soulcursed.

For example: Ryaalinth the Soulcursed

Sporeatic Growth

When this enters your hand, put it into play. Then, draw a card for each member of the Mustachioed Gang you control.

No collectible card’s text names it.

Tamed

Tamed troops are added to a champion's collection if that champion wins the current match.

No collectible card’s text names it.

Toxified

The game’s glossary gives only the word, no definition.

Stacking: a second copy adds nothing.

For example: Killarvae, The Killipede

Trained

The game’s glossary gives only the word, no definition.

No collectible card’s text names it.

Untamed

Untamed troops can be Tamed and added to a champion's collection if that champion wins the current match.

Vulnerable

If you would be dealt damage, you're dealt double that amount of damage instead. At the end of your turn, remove a vulnerable counter from you. Then, if none remain, you're no longer Vulnerable.

For example: Dark Pact Demon

Good to know

A few official rulings that surprise players, in our own words. They are the original game’s rules; the community server may play some differently.

Both champions fall at once

If both champions would lose at the same moment (say one has run out of cards just as the other takes fatal damage), the one with more health wins. If their health is equal, the player whose turn it is wins.
